My new Android UI – MIUI…
For last few months, I’ve been looking for my phone platform of choice. I’m sure that my first choice was the best one…
I was using Windows Phone 7 for quite some time as my every day business phone and I was more than a satisfied customer. For business purpose, I think that there is no better phone to back you up from 8AM to 5PM. WP 7 have the most beautiful and useful calendar and mail client that I ever used. And because of that, I accepted all my meetings intentionally on my phone
Beside this, for entertainment, this platform still needs to be developed in that direction.
Before WP 7, for almost a year, I was using Maemo on my N900. This device is one of the best that I had opportunity to test and use – Linux based, inovative and backed up with excelent hardware. I took some interesting photos with this little black brick of plastic (my friend compare it with monolith from Odyssey). But, Maemo developers are loosing the pace so new applications are very rare and Maemo is getting litle boring for me
Because of this, I decide to use my N900 only as “free time” device – on weekends and vacations, for photos, browsing and blogging…
These days, I’m back to my favorite platform – Android. I was one of the few people in this region that had a opportunity to test and use the first “all world” Android device, HTC Sapphire (latter called Magic). And it was only few months after the Android platform was reveald in USA. And that was “love at the first sight”
So you can say that I’m an expert regarding Android platform. I tried everything on Android devices: almost every new ROM, application, game, widget, possible and unpossible things with devices and platforms, bricking and unbricking devices (successfuly)… But this is the first time that I’m really excited about any ROM – MIUI!
This ROM is created by Chinese developers. On first sight, you may say that this ROM is “iPhone” inspired. You are right, but MIUI developers took this UI to another level. Only after few minutes, you will think that Apple developers should copy some of the things to improve iPhone UI
but we all know that they will not do it in near future. It is highly cusomizable and it is very user friendly. And soo slick
But with all this excite, good looking things, there is a catch – you need to root your phone and install custom recovery mode which will cancel your warranty. I do not encourage you to do rooting of your device for many reasons (warranty cancelation, bricking device…) but if you’re brave and (maybe) you know what you’re doing, than go ahead and download latest release (at this moment 1.5.13 for Nexus S). More information you can find on miuiandroid.com. Most of the supported devices are HTC and Samsung, but further development will probably lead to even more ROMs for different devices like SE (only because they are pushing Android devices so hard).
Do not forget to say “thank you” to developers for their hard work. If you think that you can even help in developing, consider this Android path, because it is one of the best that you can find anywhere
