Adding some memory…
Mac Book 13″ is cute piece of consumer tech. It looks white & nice, but lacks in some things that we are used to. Mainly because of limitation of the OSX itself like connecting to hidden Wi-Fi networks. Because of some stupid logic, to connect to hidden network, you always need to connect it manualy – join other network/enter SSID/enter password/save. But nothing is saved.
Helpfully, my wife (yes, I’m happily married now) have enough patient to do this every time. I think that this is just a bug because on all other platforms, this works “out-of-the-box”. But I think that I found a solution – creation of small script or app that will do this instead of her. But this story for another post.
Second limitation of hers Mac Book is RAM memory. Yes, 2 GB were OK couple years ago, but today 4 gigs are “must have”. Anyway, I tried to find some RAM modules but Mac is very “sensitive” in this segment – for every model you have exact memory which you can use, otherwise it will not work at all.
At beginning, I had problem to find confirmation which RAM module specification I should look for. Finally, I found on some forum, written in BIG RED LETTERS what I can use for this model – DD3, 1066 (or 1067) MHz, 204-pin… This info you can also find on apple.com but it is not stated that only that and this modules can be used. I cannot tell you how hard is to find this “special” memory on Serbian market. Too hard for something that is almost common these days.
But, there is a light at the end of the tunnel… My colleague! He was kind enough to listen my story regarding Mac memory, but then he was more than kind to call his friend and ask him for some info or help. Fortunately for me, his friend was selling exact memory I was looking for and he sold two memory modules under any regular price (tnx man!). This confirmed to me that I’m not crazy because I believe that you can find some good people out there, in wild outdoors of our world.
Today, I got mentioned memory modules and I cannot wait to open Mac Book to add more memory, to bring happier life into OSX Lion and Photoshop. And if everything goes well, I know that I will see my wife smiling because of this. 2GB of RAM is too little for hers Photoshop work.
Until operation is successfully finished, bye!
